Charactistics: Appears to be in her early 20s and is of slim build, pale skin, grey eyes and dark hair. Also noted; green pointed ears, slightly prehensile hairless tail in matching skin tone to ears, 4-digits only on both hands and feet as opposed to Human norm of 5-digits. Has a barcode imprinted into the back of her neck, its purpose and what it means remains unknown.

Family: No members known; older female suspected as mother, but was killed when Lothwyn arrived on Earth.

Personal History

Early History

Little is known of her early life up until she was five years old, having being discovered in November 1863 outside a small village in Hampshire, England. An older female was with her at the time and is widely suspected to have been her mother, though she was killed by local farmers when they feared that she was attacking them with 'magic'. She was buried on the spot where she died and a marker was placed to identify the grave, which remained undisturbed as the locals now considered the woods to be cursed.

Fearful of what Lothwyn might be, despite only being a small child, the villagers gladly handed her over to the agents of the Royal Reconnaissnace Service when they came to investigate. Given to the joint care of RRS members Robert Rawson and Jemima Crawford, she was taught English (alas with a Cockney accent and slang) and in time she almost become an adoptive child of their own. However due to her nature, the couple weren't allowed to officially adopt and were forced to leave her at the compound where she stayed for much of her childhood.

Torchwood: Bad Wolf

Lothwyn got recruited in Torchwood, at the age of 22, when it first got formed; though nobody's sure how or why she got recruited...something which nobody has gotten round to checking. It should be noted that her skills with mechanical devices and machines are second to none. However after an incident with a clockwork automaton she got reassigned from London to Edinburgh to join the Bad Wolf unit. Whilst in Edinburgh the team suffered at least one death (another member has already classed as dead but we won't go there) and the rest serious injuries. Lothwyn herself received a broken shoulder when she fired a heavily modified rifle of her own design....

....but still managed to kill the monstrous Mr Hyde in the process.

Following the Edinburgh incident the team were sent to Dorset to recover only to stumble across a Sea Devil plot straight out of a penny dreadful. Most of the males in the area went missing whilst the womenfolk unknowingly were 'seeded' by a chemical in the local water supply which resulted in them carrying Human-Sea Devil hybrid offspring. Lothwyn herself fell foul of this plot, but due to her not being human the 'seeding' backfired so to speak. But thanks to this the Torchwood doctors discovered the hybrids, though Lothwyn had to endure the pain. She was noted to have a foul temper and a bit of a loner attitude, so its unlikely that she had any children aside the fore said Sea Devil offspring.

She was later captured by the Sea Devils as part of some foul plot, the details of which remain unknown to this day. Following the Dorset Incident, she was listed as MIA.

Leagcy

Her ultimate fate remained unknown until she was discovered in cryo-genetic storage in a disused Torchwood bunker beneath London by the Thames Barrier Hub. She soon caught the interest of UNIT after a couple of their soldiers were mysteriously killed in the old bunker by unknown persons.

Children of Earth

Following the events of Legacy, Lothwyn was taken north to Torchwood House for some tests in order to identify her species...unofficially it was to help keep her hidden from UNIT's prying eyes. She ended up leading Connor to the old Edinburgh Hub where the Torchwood House staff and a few others had taken refuge following attacks from the government. A former Bad Wolf team mate, Mina Harkness, was found in cryo-genetic storage in the old Hub with no memory as to why. Both Lothwyn and Mina recognized each other and bonded....which may had led to a liaison between the two. Their liaison was discovered when Lothwyn reacted to one of the 456 broadcasts.

Through the Looking Glass/New Beginnings

After the Roman Incursion in Through the Looking Glass, Lothwyn was handed over to UNIT's custody by Whittleton in exchange for their help. She was held in a holding centre for a series of tests and assessments by UNIT to determine if she was a threat to planetary security.

Mirror Cracked/Life Under the Romans - Timline

In the alternative Mirror Cracked timeline, Lothwyn was sent on a mission to infiltrate Torchwood House which was occupied by the Romans. The mission failed and she was quickly captured, got mistaken for an 'elf' and then clmaped in iron manacles....however immediately afterwards she electrified several of the Romans when she loosened off a blast of electrical energy. Being drained by the blast she was taken down to the cells whilst the Romans decided to do with her.

She was to endure a month of Medicals, tests and 24-hour observation as the Romans caught onto the idea that she was an alien....her 'power' especially interested them. Despite her being little more than a glorified 'lab rat', she was considered a very valuable asset and a possible weapon to add to the Roman arsenal. It was decided to use her to create a race of supersoldiers, to this end she was mated with a Legionnaire to bear offspring....though this man quickly ended up becoming one of her greatest foes.

After spending a month in captivity and with possible mother-hood lingering in her immediate future, Lothwyn has focused her attentions on trying to escape....

Structure 1923-1940

RRS Ranks & Structure 1923-1940

After the Great War, the Service saw a reduction in both manpower and resources as well as a run-down of operations. The early 1920s saw the final overhaul of the RRS as it entered its last two decades of existence before it was finally merged with Torchwood in 1940 and its remaining staff transferred over.

Director:- Overall Commander of the RRS, though by 1937 the only remaining recognized rank.

Head Inspector:- Oversees operations on a Country-wide basis, second-in-command to the Director. Replaces the former ranks above that of Field Inspector.

Inspector:- Formerly the rank of Field-Inspector with the same role, oversees investigations and operations on a Regional level. Answerable to the Head Inspector and is in effect a local Commander.

Deputy-Inspector:- Assistant to the Inspector, in charge of a 'patch' that either consists of either an entire County or just a District depending on local needs and requirements.

Swift-Sergeant:- Longest retained rank within the Service, but more commonly referred to simply as 'Sergeant'.

Scout-Constable:- The RRS's version of a Corporal, the lowest NCO rank and often denotes a seasoned Scout who has served at least five years with the Service.

Scout:- Shortened once more back to Scout and lowest rank within the RRS, equal to a Private or Trooper in the Army.

Other Ranks

Some minor changes were made to the Other Ranks of the Service, but they were fairly minor.

Outrider:- Retained to denote motorcycle couriers, but was made defunct sometime around the early 1930s. It is suggested that the Great Depression forced the Service make some cuts and so the RRS opted to share the Army's couriers to help reduce costs. The RRS were given the option of reassignment, transfer to the military or dismissal.

Inspector-Commandant:- Retained to head up RRS operations overseas, though very little is mentioned of Inspector-Commandants post-1929.

Structure 1886-1923

RRS Ranks & Structure 1886-1923

Following the formation of Torchwood and the siphoning of manpower and resources, the RRS saw another major overhaul in 1886. This further streamlined the Service granting it more independance from the Crown and a shift of focus with regards to its operations, the result was a complete and utter overhaul of the ranks.

Director-General:- Nominal head and commander of the RRS, reports directly to the Crown. Formerly known as 'Scout-General', changed as a result of a shift of directive for the Service.

Director:- Commander of RRS assets on a Country level, but with usually with an added suffix 'Of Operations' when full title is used; ie 'Director Of Operations, Scotland'. This replaces the former rank of Scout-Commandant.

Inspector-General:- Similar role to Director, but on a Regional level. This replaces the now defunct rank of Scout-Major.

County-Inspector:- Similar role to Inspector-General but oversees a County. Replaces the former rank of Scout-Captain.

District-Inspector:- Oversees operations within the confines of a County District/Borough, replaces the rank of Lieutenant.

Field-Inspector:- New rank that replaces the old 'Inspector' rank for the Service's Field Agents. They still retain the authority to operate outside of the local Command. They are answerable to an Inspector-General though a Field Inspector may defer, if they so wished, to a local commander above the rank of an NCO.

Swift-Sergeant:- Similar function to that of an Army Sergeant, though the 'Swift' prefix isn't always used and so may be known simply as 'Sergeant'.

Senior Scout-Constable:- The RRS's version of a Corporal, the lowest NCO rank and often denotes a seasoned Scout who has served at least five years with the Service.

Scout-Constable:- Lowest rank within the RRS, equal to a Private or Trooper in the Army.

Other Ranks

Around this time, major changes were made to the Other Ranks of the Service.

Outrider:- With the raise of the telegraph and faster communications, the rank of Outrider was phrased out by 1890 as its role was considered to be largely defunct. Though couriers mounted on horseback, and later motorcycles, were retained by the Service and used the regular ranks up to and including Sergeant. These couriers were denoted by the suffix of 'Outrider', though on paper this was shortened to 'OR'.

Inspector-Commandant:- Coming into effect from 1887, this rank replaced that of Field Commander and denoted commissioned RRS officers operating outside of the British Isles. This rank was considered to be on equal footing to a Director, heading up RRS operations in places such as India, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

During the Cardwell Reforms of the British Army following the Crimean War, the first major overhaul of the RRS took place in 1866 and came into effect a year later in 1867. This overhaul was mainly done to help streamline the structure and organization of the Service, thereby making more effective use of its resources and manpower.....though in practice it brought the Service more in line with what commanders on a County level were already doing.

Corporal:- Again, similar function to its Army counterpart.

Senior-Scout:- The RRS's version of a Acting/Lance Corporal, lowest NCO rank and often denotes a seasoned Scout who has served at least five years with the Service.

Scout:- Lowest rank within the RRS, equal to a Private or Trooper in the Army.

Field Commander:- Created in 1868, but used as a suffix to denote an officer with field command outside of the British Isles. For example; Scout-Captain James Miller, FC.

The organization of the Royal Reconnaissance Service (RRS) remained largely unchanged from its creation in 1715 right up until the Cardwell Reforms of the 1860s. On the whole it was based upon the British Army of the time but with differences in both rank and uniforms in order to set the Service apart from the Army.

Scout-Commandant- Created in 1756 to act as a Field Commander for RRS units operating outside of the British Isles.

Torchwood 5 - Origins

Monday 14th June, 2004
At exactly 6:22am, an alien artefact is bought into the Torchwood 5 Hub in Milton Keynes. As the science department begin their examinations, the artifact becomes active. At the same time, it starts to rain. 7 Hours and 23 minutes later, everyone in Torchwood 5 is dead.

As Agent Mattaf begins a normal day at Torchwood 5, the mysterious weather conditions which have apparently appeared from nowhere get gradually worse. Mattaf and his team are dispatched to investigate. Meanwhile, strange things are happening in the hub as members of the team being to fall ill, and start attacking other members of staff. Torchwood 5 must uncover the mystery behind the sick people before it's too late... and all the while, the waters of Milton Keynes' many lakes are rising...

Previous Relationships and Personal History

Megan was sent to boarding school after the death of her mother when she was six. She did very well in school, attaining high grades and was enrolled by her father into the Royal Navy Officer Training program at Britannia Royal Naval College, something Megan did not want to do. Although she excelled in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering while at the academy she rebelled against her father's wishes for her to join the Navy and tried everything in her power to be expelled from the military academy. She eventually succeeded (unintentionally) by having an affair when she was 16 with one of her tutoring Commanding Officers – Cmd David Gibbs (43 at the time.) This is NOT commonly known. Her father, not wishing to bring further disgrace upon the family name, pulled several favours and had her discretely removed from the military training facility and transferred her to Edinburgh University (Heriot-Watt) under a Naval scholarship.
She graduated with top Honours with Degrees in Mechanical and Electrical engineering and Parapsychology, the latter which she mainly took to annoy her father, who had disowned her after her behaviour in the Military Academy.

Unknown to Megan her family had previous TW ties, her Great Aunt Minnie being one of the original but short lived TW members based in Edinburgh in 1880. After several years as a Research Assistant at Edinburgh University, she was approached by Michael Renshaw, the then director of Torchwood House and she accepted the offer of a position with Torchwood.

Megan enjoyed a relationship with Michael Renshaw which was temporarily rekindled after the First TW House Christmas party, when he was given a very large dose of B67 by Susan Wilson which resulted in his loss of memory of the past 6 years. When given a pill (from the Kirandi) by Susan Wilson, he regained those memories and returned to London after about 5 months.
Megan was accidentally transported back to 1912 where she found herself a passenger on RMS Titanic. There she met Zeg Wilson, (former TW London employee and survivor of the Battle of Canary Wharf) also transported back in time to 1907/1908 whilst trying to ram the Valiant with a Cessna light aircraft during the Tochlaphane Attack. A very brief liaison with him on board the Titanic led to her becoming pregnant. She has been trying to hide the identity of the father since her return to the 21st Century, aware of the problems this would cause with the present day Zeg and his family.
During a flight to London (Tulceslo) she was given a drug to help her cope with her fear of flying by Sarah. The drug had an unfortunate affect on Megan and she let it slip to Zeg that his 'other' self was the father of her baby.

Susan Wilson (Zeg Wilson's first wife) was thought to be killed in action when the Kirandi ship she was on seemed to be blown up. A couple of days later while recovering in a UNIT base, Zeg proposed to Megan and they were married 6 weeks later. On the night of their wedding the Kirandi ship 'What Is The Answer' managed to return from the Void, bringing with it Susan Wilson. The shock sent Megan into premature labour where she 'died' for several minutes before being resuscitated with the help of an alien entity, currently residing undetected within her. Megan, with the assistance of Susan, gave birth to a baby boy whom she and Zeg named Clive after his father. The marriage was annulled shortly after when Zeg decided to return to his first wife Susan.
With the help of the Kirandi, the Lazarus Equipment and a fob-watch containing the memories of the '1912' Zeg, a new Zeg was cloned from the original. He has recently proposed to Megan during an investigation of Kelpies in NE Scotland.

TW Career

Joined Torchwood House in 2002.
Megan was appointed to replace Hub Commander Michael Renshaw when he accepted promotion and moved to London.
Her original team was lost through the Rift and those who returned requested retirement from TW.
She promoted the original Arthur 'Zeg' Wilson to Field Operations Officer and offered both him and his wife Susan positions at TW House, which they accepted.
During a Cyberman attack, most of her new team were either killed or upgraded and TW House was completely destroyed.

Current Status

Fulfilling her part of a pact between herself and erst-while UNIT officer Lt Sophie Finch-Hamilton, Megan shot the Lt. when she had been captured and about to be Tmatted to the Cybership for Upgrading. Both had agreed to a mercy killing of the other rather than be subjected to this fate. The Tmat process was halted just before she was transported to the Cybership and Megan is under military investigation for the murder of Lt Finch-Hamilton.
Megan, Zeg and Paul McKenzie were all under suspicion of collaboration with the Cybermen as all three were taken aboard the Cybership 'Wrath of God' and returned. Megan tried to blow up the ship by placing a transmitter relaying the location of the cloaked ship, however, former team member and newly upgraded CyberUnit Zandra located the transmitter and Tmatted it aboard the 'Cromwell'. Megan was accused of sabotage and treachery and is being investigated by Sebastian Witherspoon of the BII (Bureau of Internal Investigation.)

With the help of the Kirandi, the Lazarus Equipment and a fob-watch containing the memories of the '1912' Zeg, a new Zeg was created. He has recently proposed to Megan during an investigation of Kelpies in NE Scotland.

Not much detail of this event has been made available, as it believed to be covered up extensively to preserve public faith in faster-than-light travel. All that is known is that an experiment based on theories almost half a century old were being experimented apon with modern technology.

Again, precise details of what happened are unknown, but what is known is that 134 people perished when the experiment went wrong, and the UESF (United Earth Space Fleet) cancelled all further flights with the technology and closed any leaks. The details of the events are now only known to the very top of the Intelligence service.

The details that have been put into the public domain are the cause of many people concern over the use of the Hyperdrive. Many protest against it's use, considering it to be untrustworthy.

Originally from Wiltshire, England, Matilda (Tilly) Sparrow unexpectedly found herself working for Torchwood 5 but soon settled into her new job with enthusiasm. Her eccentricities ensuring that she fitted perfectly into her new role with ease. Tilly goes about her duties and indeed, life in general with a boundless energy and at times, an almost childlike naivety.

Being very prim and proper most of the time, she seems to exhibit strong Victorian values and is regularly surprised by many facets of everyday life. She adores pizza and remains oblivious to the fact that her colleagues continually give her alcohol in various guises, firmly believing that she is Tea Total. Tilly never goes anywhere without her umbrella and loves when she gets the chance to use explosives.

She lives in one of the TW5 accommodation rooms although she has never actually admitted this to her fellow agents, sidestepping any questions of where she lives. To her workmates, it appears that she is always first to arrive at work and last to leave.

Not much else is known about her background or private life and she tends to avoid mentioning anything relating to herself.

Personal Life/Character

Agent Mattaf could be described as a competent commander, worthy of command and well suited to be at the head of Torchwood 5's team.

Except he isn't.

Given the position due to a series of events involving an explosion, the deaths of the majority of his colleagues and a computer malfunction, Mattaf has a record consisting almost entirely of failures.

Born in Milton Keynes in 1980, Mattaf proved to be very unpopular in school and was often bullied for his severe lack of social skills and general nerdiness. When he was 18, he was head-hunted by Torchwood due to his above average exam results in Science, History and Information Technology. He completed basic training with flying colours and began working at Torchwood 5 in 1999. However, it quickly became clear that although his theory training was exemplary, he often struggled to put it into practice in the field, for example, on one occasion he allowed an alien fugitive to escape capture, claiming he thought it was a "severely disfigured child". Similarly, in 2001 he was reprimanded for attacking and severely injuring an "alien", which later turned out to be a severely disfigured child.

In 2004, an accident at Torchwood 5 led to the annihilation of the entire staff of the base, except for four agents, among them Agent Mattaf. Agent Mattaf was chosen for command, as the now severely malfunctioning computer decided he was the only surviving employee that wasn't a complete moron.

Mattaf still has a severe number of character flaws - he and his team seem to spend more time (and money) partying than they do investigating alien sightings. However, there are a number of cases when the staff haven't completely screwed up. Unfortunately, none of them are on record, as Mattaf is very bad at filing paperwork.

Operational History

Very little information is available on Mattaf's Operational History, due to his notoriously bad habit of not filing any paperwork. However, a small number of case files are present.

The first known operation involving Mattaf was the Toclafane invasion and attempted world takeover by Prime Minister Harold Saxon. Mattaf and his team documented their attempts to escape Milton Keynes, which was overrun by the Toclafance. The eventually managed to find transport, successfully made their way to Torchwood 3 in Cardif, and successfully reactivated the base, which had been abandoned by the Torchwood 3 operatives, who were on a mission in the Himalayas at the time of the invasion. It is debatable as to whether or not this mission actually counts as part of Mattaf's operational history, as technically the events were wiped from history thanks to the paradox being reset. Mattaf retains some faint memories of the events, though he puts this down to a rather a good party that happened the night before.

In 2009, Mattaf responded to an urgent message sent be Arthur "Zeg" Wilson, a full 12 hours after the message was left. His response was answered under duress by Megan Smith, commander of Torchwood House. Through coded speech, Mattaf was able to acsertain that Torchwood House had been captured by an unknown enemy. Unfortunately, the enemy was able to twig that Megan was communicating with Mattaf using code, and mistakenly assumed that Mattaf was one of Torchwood's "top agents". Mattaf and his team quickly responded, and headed north to Torchwood House. Currently, it is unknown whether Mattaf and his team arrived.

Torchwood 5 - Milton Keynes

Torchwood 5 is located in the city of Milton Keynes, beneath the Food Centre. The underground base is accessed via a lift in the Food Centre car park. On the roof of the building is located a secret hanger, in which Torchwood 5's helicopter is kept, though this is currently out of commission thanks to an accident involving beer in the fuel tank. The complex is fairly dilapidated, thanks to an incident in 2004 which wiped out most of the Torchwood staff. Currently, there are only four surviving members of staff; Agent Mattaf, Sergeant Wallace, Agent Sparrow and Agent Barker.

Renovation of Torchwood 5 is scheduled to take place at some point, but... you know... Eastenders was on...
